Lawmen Beat Fury to win 2006 GCFL Title
(June 2006):
On June 24th 2006, The Lawmen beat the Capitol City Fury 8-6 in the 1st Annual GCFL Championship 'Golden Bowl' game in the blazing heat of Foothill HS in Sacramento. The Lawmen defense crushed the Fury offense, never allowing them to score. They blocked two field goal attempts and with 4:55 on the clock and the Lawmen leading 8-0 and looking to put the Fury away with the ball at the 1, the Lawmen fumbled going into the end-zone and a Fury player returned it 99 yards for a TD. The Lawmen defense again stepped up and stopped the 2 point try keeping the score at 8-6. The Fury kicked off deep on the ensuing kickoff, counting on their defense to stop the Lawmen and get them the ball back. The Lawmen got two important first downs, including a great catch by wide receiver Derek Carter on third a 14. The Lawmen punted the ball to the Fury with less than two minutes on the clock deep in their own territory. The Lawmen defense then sacked the Fury QB twice and forced him to throw two incompletions under heavy pressue and with excellent coverage to end their final drive and hopes of winning the game with under a minute left on the clock. The Lawmen then took a knee twice and ended the game with the final score Lawmen 8 - Fury 6. Lawmen wide receiver Nick Iano scored the Lawmen TD early in the 4th quarter on a 41 pass catch and dove to the end zone, getting the ball over the line. Iano had six catches for 112 yards in the game and was named as NLFN national player of the week.

Veteran Defensive Back Andre Walker, the only player to be on all four Lawmen Championship teams, had two interceptions and John Philips scored a safety which was the only score of the game (2-0 Lawmen) until the Lawmen scored in the 4th quarter to go up 8-0. The entire Lawmen defense played well, Bubba Merz, Eddie DeFlorio, Chad Hammer, Chris Safford, Malo Kuka, Paul DeVille, Jim Curuso, George Jordan, Jeremy Horn and Anthony Brown all had outstanding games.
